Sittings are arranged in such a way that the client does not have to sit for a number of inconveniencing hours. At the first meeting, I meet with the client in the client’s home or office to discuss the details of the portrait project, such as where the portrait is to hang and what the portrait’s approximated dimensions will be. A photography session usually takes place at this meeting. Also, I may paint a small oil portrait of the client’s head, primarily to record various colors of the face including the eyes, hair and general skin tone.
Next, the client and I review the developed photographs to determine the best pose and facial expressions to use as reference for the final portrait. In the case of the large portraits, a small compositional sketch will be completed in my studio and mailed to the client fro approval. Generally, I can complete and deliver an oil portrait in three to six months, depending on my schedule and the complexity of the portrait.
